Financial Information

Teaching assistantships come with a non-resident tuition waiver, a monthly salary of approximately $1,670 during the academic year, and health insurance. The student must establish residency (if eligible) in Washington state by the beginning of their second year of study. The tuition waiver during the second year is an in-state tuition waiver only.

Teaching assistantship appointments begin on August 16 and end on May 15. This is a half-time appointment (.5 FTE) and requires 20 hours of work and service per week. To maintain a teaching assistantship, the student must be enrolled in a minimum of 10 credits and maintain at least a 3.00 GPA.

Duties

The School of Music often supports teaching assistants whose duties are in the following areas: marching band, accompanying, class piano, jazz studies, instrument inventory, voice, stage/technical support, music theory, music history, electronic music lab and music library, class support, and tutoring. Each teaching assistant has a variety of assignments that support the program and relate as closely as possible to the student’s goals.
