Northwest Horn Symposium

On April 12–14, the WSU Horn Studio hosted the 2024 Northwest Horn Symposium. Spearheaded by our Assistant Professor of Horn and Music Education, Martin King, the event brought 108 horn players and 8 vendors to Pullman for three days of concerts, masterclasses, presentations, exhibits, and competitions. The event featured several guest artists, including the U.S. Army Brass Quintet; Bernhard Scully (professor of horn at the University of Illinois, formerly of the Canadian Brass); and Skip Snead (professor of horn and director of the School of Music at the University of Alabama), who performed and gave masterclasses at the event.

A special congratulations to WSU’s own Ivy Quartet for winning the 2024 Northwest Horn Symposium Horn Quartet Competition. The quartet is made up of undergraduate horn players: Nicholas Yoon, Orion Stankus, Kathy Nguyen, and Steven Randall. The group won a $100 cash prize and performed at the final concert of the symposium.
