Financial Information

The School of Music has a limited number of teaching assistantships for qualified applicants. The financial package includes a non-resident tuition waiver, a monthly salary of approximately $2,318.50/month during the academic year (salary step 59), and health insurance. The student must establish residency (if eligible) in Washington state by the beginning of their second year of study. The tuition waiver during the second year is an in-state tuition waiver only.

Appointments for an Academic Student Employee (ASE) begin on August 16 and end on May 15. This is a half-time appointment (.5 FTE) and requires 20 hours of work and service per week. To maintain a teaching assistantship, the student must be enrolled in a minimum of 10 credits and maintain at least a 3.00 GPA.

Duties

Duties vary and are assigned based on the Academic Student Employee’s strengths and experience. The School of Music typically has support for the following areas: marching band, collaborative piano, class piano, instrument inventory, stage/technical support, music theory, music history, electronic music lab and music library, class support, and tutoring. Each Academic Student Employee has a variety of assignments that support the program and relate as closely as possible to the student’s professional goals.
