WSU Bands include the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Cougar Marching Band, Jazz Big Bands, and various brass, woodwind, and percussion ensembles. WSU Bands and faculty perform at prestigious conferences and collaborate regularly with composers and performing artists.

Membership in auditioned and non-auditioned WSU Vocal/Choral Ensembles offer opportunities to perform in an array of active singing groups. We offer Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Opera Workshop, University Singers and Treble Choir.

Members of the Cougar Marching Band are committed not only to maintaining the musical traditions and integrity of WSU through vibrant, masterful, and entertaining performances—they’re committed to teamwork and fun, too.

As part of the WSU Symphony Orchestra, students study, rehearse, perform, and review original symphonic works and transcriptions in preparation for careers as performers, teachers, engineers, technicians, managers, composers, and lifelong practitioners of music. The orchestra divides at times to perform works for opera, theatre, and chamber orchestra, and often performs with high-profile guests and composers.

WSU Percussion Ensembles test students’ skills on all the percussion instruments (from mallets and drums to timpani, accessories, and ethnic instruments. Programs include works from traditional literature, world percussion, orchestral transcriptions, jazz, and pop music.
