The Solstice Wind Quintet
The Solstice Wind Quintet is the resident WSU faculty wind quintet. Every year, Solstice tours throughout the Northwest receiving enthusiastic acclaim for vibrant performances of standard repertoire and exciting new works composed especially for the ensemble. Founded in 1978, the group regularly performs on prestigious chamber music series, at universities, art museums, and public schools. In the fall of 2018, Solstice performed a concert of repertoire by NW composers at the National College Music Society Conference in Vancouver, BC. They have also played live for National Public Radio’s “St. Paul Sunday” and are regularly featured during WSU’s annual Festival of Contemporary Art Music (FOCAM) concert series. Individual members of the quintet have extensive professional experience in symphony, opera, and ballet orchestras including the Seattle, Spokane, Walla Walla, Yakima, Kansas City, Colorado Mahlerfest, Tulsa, Lyon (France), and Syracuse Symphonies to name just a few.
