Woodwinds

Work with the Finest

Woodwind students at WSU study with a renowned artist-faculty with significant experience in orchestral performance, chamber music, solo playing and jazz performance. In residence is the Solstice Wind Quintet, the faculty wind quintet. Students may perform in the WSU Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Jazz Bands, Cougar Marching Band, chamber ensembles, combos and more. WSU woodwind students regularly receive national attention including top awards at Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) competitions, the Musicfest Northwest competition, and numerous concerto and jazz competitions. Woodwind graduates from WSU are performing, touring and recording world-wide, and teaching in universities, colleges and public schools.

Woodwinds Faculty

Woodwind faculty members have performed with the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Spokane Symphony, Spokane Jazz Orchestra, National Symphony of South Africa, The McCoy Tyner Big Band and The Joe Sample Jazz Orchestra. Individually, they have received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and international recording awards. They regularly tour throughout the world presenting concerts and clinics.
