WSU Chamber Singers

The WSU Chamber Singers is a new ensemble beginning in the fall of 2023. This is a WSU UCORE [ARTS] course and rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:10 – 1:25 pm. Singers in this ensemble are expected to sight-read well, be able to learn their parts outside of class, and bring an entrepreneurial spirit to the group. All WSU-Pullman students are encouraged to audition no matter their major.

Repertoire will consist of a wide range of small ensemble literature including vocal jazz, acappella, madrigal, pop, gospel, and many other styles. Ensemble members will be asked to perform solos often and will often sing with one or two members on a part. For some literature we will use sound amplification and education on microphone technique will be a part of the process.

The WSU Chamber Singers will have interesting performing opportunities. We will tour each year in the region, engage in a recording project in the WSU Recording Studio (4th Floor Studios), and members will be responsible for engaging with the community in booking gigs, doing run-out performances, and learning about gig culture.

This group of 8 – 14 singers represents the WSU School of Music in a number of functions each year and ensemble members may earn extra income through booking gigs.

Auditions for the WSU Chamber Singers takes place through a competitive audition process beginning each fall in the days leading up to the fall semester. For more information on auditions, please visit our auditions page. During the audition process, you may be asked to attend a “call-back” audition to determine if you will be in the final group. The call-back audition will take place the first day of classes in the fall semester at 5:00 pm. You will be notified if you are requested to attend the call-back audition.

Since the WSU Chamber Singers will be learning music for recording projects, our annual tour in the spring, and to sing at various gig performances throughout the year, ensemble members are expected to enroll for the entire year (fall and spring terms).
